1967 Mini Cooper S Mk1 1275
Recently imported from South Africa where over the last year or so it was displayed in the Graaf Reinet classic car museum.
There is plenty of paperwork with the car and this shows it was last re-painted and refreshed some 20 years ago with many parts imported from various UK Mini specialists. It still presents well as an older refreshed car with the paintwork still remaining in excellent condition.
The undersides, floors and sills appear factory original with no apparent evidence of previous welding ever necessary or carried out. This level of body originality is usually only found on cars that have always been in a dry hot climate and is the main reason we import cars from overseas. Original 1275cc Cooper S engine is fitted with correct AEG312 block and AEG613 cylinder head cast number.
There is a letter on file in the history from a leading Mini specialist in South Africa who inspected the car confirming the authenticity as a genuine Cooper S model with all the necessary features present from factory.
There is also a letter from British Motor Industry Heritage Trust confirming this car was one of a batch of 6 produced in series in mid-1967 and sent CKD (Complete Knock Down) for export to South Africa where it was assembled at the BMC plant in Blackheath.
The South African produced Coopers, whilst mechanically identical, had slight variations in spec. and the main one on this particular model was the fitment of Australian style wind up windows with quarter lights adopted for a short period in 1967.
The twin SU carbs have been upgraded to HS4 from HS2 for better performance at some point in it's history. Minilite style wheels are fitted and it runs on quality Yokohama tyres all round.
